Power of art in the home.

Through the ages of time people have always understood the importance of having art in their life. From statues standing in town square to more personal works hanging in their home, art is a key factor in society. Not only is art a great way to record the past but, it also can add that personal human touch to any room of the house.  Easily turning the empty spots above fireplaces and walls into a focus point of conversation, while sharing your home with friends and family.  Whether it’s a painting of old or a new masterpiece, the styles and choices of what fits you and your desired environment are endless. Already have that piece your just absolutely in love with or has been in the family for years? Why not design a room around the art and incorporate everything you like about it into a actual living space. Now the next time you feel like something is missing you will know what, art.

Do you dig the modern flair?

This week, DOTI wanted to work on creating an elegant interior that both you, as well as your husband, can enjoy. For a relaxing, modern living area, we love this Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman in brown leather, for they are as classic as they are comfortable.  This console table is a perfect companion for the Eames chair; a great setup for a flat screen and very masculine and modern with its strong lines and dark wood. Next we wanted to find a rug to give color and overall mood to the room. We found this modern rug from Surya with linear elements in it – although wavy in design, the vertical lines and rectangular shape of the rug fit with the straighter lines of the chair and console table. After that, it was easy to find accessories to complete the look. My favorite one is this cool end table from Global Views; I adore the way its cut and the funky wood! And how about that yellow pillow with its textured fabric…don’t you think that’d make such a statement against the smooth leather? All together, these elements make for a picture perfect family space. What do you think of this modern look? Be sure to let us know!

And the litmus test says…neutral.

Gray, beige, white, cream – you know these colors well. They are everywhere, and look good with almost anything, because of their wonderful neutral nature.  In interiors, monochromatic color schemes take on a myriad of different forms and are easily one of the most beautiful solutions for an elegant living space. For example, in the interior to the left, the contemporary patterns on the rug, ottomans, and pillows add flare and visual interest to what would otherwise be just a ho hum neutral interior. Even the textured wallpaper – as opposed to just a flat paint color – gives greater depth and beauty to the space. The gold base on the cocktail table really ties the warmth of the entire room together.

We found similar furniture and accessories from DOTI’s vendors, and these are definitely not the only beautiful neutrals that we have to offer! I really like this flowery neutral Villa Romo fabric (bottom right) for either pillows or upholstery. Not to mention, the gray leather on the Klismos chair (bottom left) is unique as well as stunning. What sort of neutral spin can YOU think of?

Come in and stay awhile.

Designs Of The Interior (DOTI) has a wide network of vendors and retailers for any type of home décor that you can imagine, making it easy for you to create your desired look. For example, we were drawn to this interior because of its warmth and visual complexity. We love the tribal rug that anchors the two loose-cushion chairs and provides a direct contrast to the light blue ceiling above it. It seems like a nice, comfortable, and beautiful place to sit down and read, or perhaps watch television.

By selecting our own similar tribal rug – Surya has a great variety of products we pull from for you – it was easy to recreate this fabulous interior look that could easily fit inside a many-windowed space with a high, light blue (or whatever else suits your fancy) ceiling. The chairs are rustic yet finished, and the print on the rug and pillows combined with the sculpture accessories gives the interior an updated, transitional look. What do you think of our interior re-creation?

A window (treatment) to a whole different world.

BEFORE                                                              AFTER

If you ever wonder about the power of window treatments, look no further than this Jax Beach condo installation. DOTI assisted in the selection of lighting fixtures, rug, tables, chairs, accessories, and – you guessed it – window treatments. This bachelor pad was bleak and unwelcoming before, with the large windows doing nothing for the room but making it hard to see the television through the glare. However, once we added the panels of sheer fabric on either side of the windows, held up by chic silver medallions, the whole contemporary, modern feel of the room came together and finished off the room quite nicely. Our client didn’t even have to leave his condo for all this – and it was easily within budget, too!

We really love the croc-top nesting side tables (seen in the foreground of the second picture) and the arrangement of the contemporary metallic light fixtures; both are unique and add character to the room. The steely blue color of the walls, echoed in the sheers’ pattern, is modern but soothing and perfect for a relaxing, livable living space. Who would have thought that some hardware and sheer fabric could make such a difference, and that it would be so easy and enjoyable for you?

Smooth it out, then rough it up.

Looking to create a trendy interior for your home but don’t want to stray too far out of your comfort zone? Look no further than glass accent pieces! Although this glass cocktail table is priced at a ridiculously whopping $11,250, it’s a great example of a piece flexible enough to be placed in either a traditional or contemporary interior. Its elegant curve and glass sculpture legs draw the eye of anyone who walks into the room. Throw in a textured piece for contrast, like a driftwood lamp or a delightfully ruffled pillow, and you have yourself a hot living room – complete with the jealousy of your house guests.
